It’s all about self-awareness:
It’s almost certain that the first time you’ve ever played basketball, you had no idea that what for a minute there seemed like a simple shoot, would one day turn you into a passionate Basketball player. But here you are today, after so many years still chasing your dream to become a reality. A reality, as it is for so many great players out there that achieved what you are now struggling for.
Ever wondered what it is about those great players that set their game to a whole new level? Why these guys made it to the top? Which are the x-factors that led them to where they are today? Aren’t you curious to discover yours? What makes you a valuable Basketball Player after all?
It’s all about self-awareness. If you want to play the game like a PRO, first you need to define yourself as a Basketball player. Who you are in the field, why you are out there, what can you offer to the team and what makes you stand out from it? That said, it all comes down to three basic factors:
Discover what makes you stand out as a Basketball Player
This may be considered as a rather unfair category as, and let’s be realistic, you can’t control what Mother Nature gave you. In the history of Basketball, there were only a few athletes that looked like they were born to play. Basketball players like James Lebron, Kevin Duran and Giannis Antetokounmpo, basically touch perfection. I mean those guys have the whole package, what are the odds that you do to? Think about it though! Those men are not the rule, they are the exception. Most athletes may have only a few of those characteristics that naturally leads to a great player. And you know what they do? They focus on what they have and decide how they can make the best out of it.
Now, this is something to think about. Literally. Thinking and understanding what is going on around you during the game is a charisma. To win any game you need to have a strategy, a clear perception of what you should do at any time and adjust accordingly (Read more about: How to improve your Basketball Game). This category includes those “fighters” who turn basketball into a chess game. Think of Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, or Stef Curry. These guys see and plan ahead. They use their brains as much as their bodies, analyze games and other players and decide how to act in any situation. So, leave nothing to chance. Be as strategic as you can be and always analyze your cases of success and fails. You can learn a lot about yourself and the others and use it the field.
Well, this affects EVERYTHING. Passion, focus, persistence, patience are only some of the great qualities that open the doors towards greatness. Take for example Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Nothing could stop them because they knew where they were heading. They kept strong in difficult times, they stood tall when life wasn’t that gentle and they won every battle. Their enthusiasm, positivity, unselfishness and mostly constant effort, kept them focused. They taught themselves to discipline and hard work. Stayed on a program and kept practicing and progressing. So, in the end, it seems that being a winner is a state of mind! If you know yourself and judge it objectively then you’ll know where to focus, practice your skills and evolve till you get to the TOP.
